Thanks for requesting the Educator’s Guide to Social Security!
You may have figured this out by now, but Social Security is a mess. And that’s just for normal folks. If you happen to be eligible for a pension from a job where you didn’t pay Social Security taxes, it gets even more complicated. In addition to the rules that everyone else must decipher, you have the addition of the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset to figure out.
These two provisions are very poorly understood by the folks at the Social Security office and your financial planner probably isn’t going to be any help either.
Let’s be real clear…the burden is on you to figure this out and make sure you’re not getting screwed by a system that is stacked against you. Asking for this Educator’s Guide to Social Security is an excellent first step in getting informed.
What you should expect…
By now, you should have an email waiting in your inbox. This will be the first of eight emails you’ll receive over the next few weeks. I could’ve simply sent everything all at once, but honestly that would be about as effective as drinking from a firehose.
Every few days you’ll receive a new email with information that’ll build on the week prior. By the conclusion of the eight email series, you’ll be much more informed about Social Security.
If you have any questions along the way, don’t hesitate to post it to my Questions & Answers page.
